Our commitment to the environment is one of the reasons we provide only wool carpeting. Our wool carpets are a sustainable, renewable, and healthy alternative to synthetic flooring.
Renewable
The majority of the wool Bellbridge uses in its carpets are from the unpolluted pristine environment of New Zealand. New Zealand wool is one of the purest and most ecological fibers in the world. Our sheep are scientifically managed and rotated to impose minimal environmental impact. They graze on natural grasslands that are largely unsuitable for other agricultural uses and thus do not compete with food production. The wool fiber itself is fully biodegradable, and actually makes an excellent fertilizer when it is returned to the earth.
Sustainable
Only environmentally responsible, energy efficient and safe production methods are used in the manufacturing of our carpet. Bellbridge manufacturing facilities use the latest scouring systems insuring energy and water efficiency. These systems also insure that dyestuffs do not pollute any ground water. Most of the Bellbridge tufted backings are made from natural jute and latex.
Energy Efficient
Wool fiber production is much more energy efficient than synthetic fiber production using only one third to one sixth of the energy required to produce polypropylene or nylon fibers. Wool carpets are also excellent insulators, which reduces the need for indoor heating and cooling.
Healthy
Wool fibers have microscopic scales that capture and hold dust until they are vacuumed. This results in less dust in the air, which is a benefit for those who suffer from allergies. Bellbridge wool carpets also absorb and neutralize common indoor contaminants such as formaldehyde, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide, helping to purify the indoor environment. More important, wool fibers will not re-emit these pollutants. It has been estimated that wool carpets can continually purify indoor air for up to 30 years.
