A blank canvas

Have you noticed today’s interiors? Most all have colors black, gray, or white as the backdrop. Even Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year 2015 is white; as I am sure you have seen at your local paint store and in design magazines. To coincide with today’s interior canvas, there has been increasing demand for clean, natural white floor coverings. Initially, I thought it was a blip, but I feel it is a trend. But why? My guess is that more top high-end interiors are being created around fine art collections. Thus, black, gray, and white environments are the ultimate background for these curated collections. A room bathed with a white or grey backdrop will allow the art of all eras and genres to be hung and shown without the complications of color.

Do you remember the days when living rooms would be color driven by art or the art would drive the color scheme of the dining room? I never thought this was a good idea so I am very glad to see this new trend in design. Perhaps it is an overall extension of the desire for uncomplicated living – subtle interiors, clean lines in furniture design, accented with textured textiles. Clean, neutral interiors allow our eyes to rest and to focus on key pieces of furniture and art. The room takes a back step to allow our focus to be on these wonderful artistic objects.

What are your thoughts about this trend of the use of natural white, black, and shades of grey to create a neutral shell? What types of carpet textures and profiles in these tones capture simplicity yet accent and enhance the environment?

To give you some inspiration Bellbridge has introduced Mayan Premium White Collection, Winter 2015.
