Seaming Information on Hand-loomed Products

August 28, 2018 by Valerie Jones

Bellbridge has seen a very good response to our hand-loomed products; specifically products that comprise the Cottage and Landmark Collections. We have also recognized that questions regarding seaming these qualities have risen. The statement below reflects our knowledge about our hand-loomed qualities and we wish to pass it forward; we want you to be informed to make the best decision for both you and your client. Should you have any questions or additional concerns, please feel free to contact Customer Service or your Bellbridge sales agent.

Bellbridge hand-loomed carpets are hand-crafted and have been produced by artisans in our mill from India. The carpets are woven on a traditional loom and are entirely hand driven, which is what lends this type of product its name – ‘hand loomed’. Similarly, the look of these products reflects their hand-crafted nature while delivering a well-structured product that performs very well in virtually all situations.

Thus, seaming these products can be problematic and is the primary reason we produce these carpets at a width of 16’4”. It is sometimes possible to seam hand-loomed products depending on the construction of the carpet. Lower-profile loop pile constructions with structured designs tend to be the most challenging. We strongly recommend you consult with the installer or rug room prior to confirming any project that requires a seam.

Please Note: Without the mechanical controls on yarn tensions, this traditional weaving can result in minor irregularities in design, texture, color, pattern repeat, pile height, and row spacing and is inherent in the product.
